Nocardia represent a genus of aerobic actinomycetes and belong specifically to the family Mycobacteriaceae. Nocardia are aerobic, gram-positive, filamentous, branching rods and can be found as ubiquitous environmental saprophytes in soil, dust, organic matter and water.
