Eremothecium gossypii (also known as Ashbya gossypii) is a filamentous fungus or mold closely related to yeast Saccharomyces cerevisae. It was originally isolated from cotton as a pathogen causing stigmatomycosis and relies on heteropterous insects for its dispersal of spores or mycelia fragments.
