STATs (Signal Transducers and Activators of Transcription) are a family of cytoplasmic proteins with SH2 (Src Homology-2) domains that act as signal messengers and transcription factors that mediate many aspects of cellular immunity, proliferation, apoptosis and differentiation. The STAT family comprises seven members namely, STAT1, STAT2, STAT3, STAT4, STAT5a, STAT5b, and STAT6.
