Telomeres are specialized nucleoprotein structures found at the ends of linear eukaryotic chromosomes. Telomeres confer stability to chromosomes by preventing nucleolytic degradation and recombination. They also function in chromosomal localization, nuclear architecture, and repression of nearby genes.
